Intel's Vietnam Exports Hit $110 Billion, Boosting National Tech Ambitions

Intel's Vietnam operations have surpassed $110 billion in cumulative export turnover, a significant milestone reached two decades after the U.S. chipmaker entered the country in 2006. With a total committed investment of $4.1 billion, the corporation established its largest global Assembly and Test facility at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) in Ho Chi Minh City.

Over the past 20 years, Intel Products Vietnam (IPV) has shipped more than 4 billion units. In 2025 alone, the facility's exports were valued at approximately $11.67 billion, a figure that represented 57% of SHTP’s total exports and accounted for 12% of Ho Chi Minh City’s entire export turnover for the year. The company's presence has generated a significant economic ripple effect, helping to expand Vietnam's semiconductor market to a scale of over $21 billion and attracting more than $14 billion in foreign direct investment across 240 projects.

Speaking at a ceremony on June 12 marking the 20th anniversary, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan emphasized that semiconductors are now considered a strategic national capability. He noted that Vietnam has identified science, technology, digital transformation, and semiconductors as core drivers to achieve its goal of becoming a high-income developed nation by 2045.

Looking toward the next two decades, Vietnam aims to partner with Intel to achieve three major transitions. These include moving from simple participation to mastering higher-value stages in the global semiconductor ecosystem; shifting from attracting investment to technological co-creation for new global products; and transitioning from general workforce training to developing elite engineers and scientists.
